Home Landscape Design And Preperation

As a part of my personal regular landscaping study, I regularly make the time to visit landscaping and gardens that are created by homeowners and do it yourselfers. There are usually a lot of individual aspects in every yard or garden that differ in degree of budget, creativity, and style. However, the prime determining factor that I have seen between great landscape design ideas and not so great ones is the amount of preperation that went into each yard or landscape.

It's clear that the planning process and getting a vision may be frustrating and difficult for rookie do it yourselfers. However, regardless of how much time it takes, you should never skip this phase. It is imperative to the final appearance, effectiveness, functionality, and continued growth of your landscape design. Be sure to to plan. Remember the following advice. They can be helpful for getting your vision and ideas planned out and finally to the ground.

When you start the design process it may be helpful to think on the abstract as opposed to specifics. Many practiced landscapers design like this. Rather than becoming caught up in different flowers or plants to plant in your landscaping plans, think of the shape, texture, colors, size, and purpose of the plants and flowers that you need for specific areas. Unique plant types can be picked and researched once the plan is complete.

Try not to focus too much on all the aspects of the landscaping project. Pay attention instead to function, shape, accessibility, etc. Instead of focusing on exact supplies for fences, patios, walls, walkways, decks, and other hardscapes, think in terms of convenience, shape, size, purpose, access, and necessity.

A common design hindrance is being unable to see past what already exists. While it is wonderful to incorporate existing views and elements that are enjoyable, your landscaping ideas should not be limited to much more than budget, imagination, and location. It is very valuable to think past what you already have and start with a clean design in mind.

Try outlining or copying your perfect landscape into your space as if you have a fresh smooth lot to start with. Look at pictures of landscaping and use a whole layout in your yard if you need to. Revise it, modify it, or try something different. The purpose is to plan without limitation and then adjust it and work with what you've got.

The final hint is to keep it basic by keeping elements to a few and then repeating them. Also, you could try creating a point of focus in the major areas. This could be simply a statue, bed of flowers, or even an entry door or gate. Keep focal points to one as too many will compete for focus and take away from the view.
