Gardening In The Shade
A big first step that most beginner gardeners who have not invested in shade gardening before is to realise that there are many perennials that are extremely attractive and do not need the sunlight like other plant’s do. A big part of this is to do with the social conditioning that we have been made to believe that in the areas where grass can’t grow, nothing can grow. This is in fact completely wrong. Most plants or mainly flowers grown in the shade are usually spring bloomers, and the key to shade gardening is to enrich the soil of your shade garden. When I decided to dive into shade gardening I began by using the shadows of the surrounding trees / buildings that blocked the sunlight as guidelines for my shade gardening area. You must ensure that the soil you use for your shade garden is rich with mulch and compost as this will keep the soil moist. Once you have your area set and bulbs in place I recommend watering not small amounts daily, but a good soak once a week as it will allow the plants to root nice and deep into the bed.
