Water Gardening Basics

Water gardens are more commonly known as ponds, or a fancier term is ‘aquatic garden’ but for me, ponds will do . They usually occupy marine plants such as marginal plants (that’s roots are under the water but the rest of the plant is above the water surface), submerged plants (that grow nearly entirely underwater occasionally with their leaves or flowers emerging from the water), and also floating plants (that are literally plants that grow with the roots hooked to the waterbed). Another common feature with water gardening is to include fish such as goldfish or koi carp as they require no special heating (as long as you don’t live in area of extreme temperatures!). Water gardens can attract a variety of wildlife such as water snails, frogs, newts, turtles and occasionally snakes, even racoons and other predators such as herons, which can be a danger to your fish and to your pocket as koi carp are not always cheap.
